We Honor Veterans Program

Covenant Hospice is a Level V partner – the highest designation possible – in the We Honor Veterans program, a National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization and Department of Veterans Affairs initiative that supports veterans and their families during end-of-life care. The goal of the program, to care for and honor those who have served when they reach the end of life, is achieved through community partnerships to educate and expand awareness of services and benefits available to veterans and their families during end-of-life care.

Covenant Health Offers Military Recognition Programs

These include patient programs, rewarding career opportunities that fulfill the mission to serve others, and sponsorship of veteran community programs and events. Covenant Health’s military recognition program helps identify veterans as part of the hospitals’ admission process.

Support Covenant Health’s Military Recognition Programs

Financial contributions are a wonderful way to support our military recognition programs and honor a veteran or active duty service member who has made a difference in your life.

Military Recognition Program

Covenant Health’s military recognition program identifies, thanks and supports service members who seek care at our facilities, as well as Covenant HomeCare and hospice. With the patient’s permission, he or she is presented with a special pin, certificates or other acknowledgement for his or her military service.

Since the program was implemented in our hospitals in Nov. 2020, more than 23,000 veterans and service men and women have been treated at a Covenant Health hospital. More than 5,000 pinning ceremonies have been performed for our service members during their stay at our facilities.

In addition to hospital patients, the pinning ceremony and recognition initiative has been in place for more than six years at Covenant HomeCare and Hospice, the area’s largest non-profit home health and hospice provider. The organization is a top-tier (Level V) partner with We Honor Veterans, a national awareness and action campaign created to assist veterans in hospice care. As part of the Level V designation, Covenant HomeCare and Hospice continually expands services to better connect with veterans in the community and to provide specialized care for veterans and their families.

This program is very meaningful to our veteran patients. The pinning ceremonies are an opportunity to thank them and acknowledge their commitment at a time when they provided service to others.

When Cindy Winterberger came to me with the idea of recognizing our veterans in the hospital, I never dreamed it would be as impactful as it has become! Our program reaches out to all hospital patients who have served in the armed forces.

I volunteered to be the military recognition coordinator at Claiborne because honoring our veterans is very important to me. It has been such a blessing to me to recognize our veterans at Claiborne Medical Center.
